Don’t go crazy keeping track of independent reading conferences! If you regularly use independent reading and reader’s workshop to build book love, this reading conference form for Google Drive can help you stay focused, keep detailed conferring notes, and track individual student reading conferences.
I keep a shortcut on my desktop. With one click, the form is open. I enter basic information that will later help me sort student data (name, class period, date), and choose from (or have students choose from) basic, advanced, and reading life questions to start the conference. After listening and asking follow-up questions, I type a quick summary of the conversation, as well as my observations and notes for next time.
In the spreadsheet o’ data, I can easily sort students by name, review progress over time, and continue to challenge each student with different questions. I can also remember which book a student talked about during the last conference and make sure to follow-up or continue to address needed skills.
